AddictingGames is an online casual gaming site based in San Francisco. It is a part of the Atom Shockwave family and owned by MTV Networks. It's primary demographic is teenage boys and is one of the most popular gaming sites on the web with over 10 million unique visitors per month.
The Challenge
The site needed an upgrade to make it more "2.0". My team was charged with the responsibility of adding a social networking component that would allow users to make friends and play games against one another. AG has built a very successful formula and it’s not called Addicting for no reason. The design challenge was to update the site and add new features without veering away from the original visual design that was so familiar to its users.
My Role
I was brought in to join a small team consisting of myself as primary designer, two project managers, and two developers. We went through many design phases and user testing to finally arrive at a place where we were adding, but not changing too much visually. It was quite a challenge to design a site whose long-time logo is in Comic Sans. Much restraint was required.
